Fleetwood Synagogue Housing Incentive Program
Description
Need more space?
Want to live near
the city, but in the ‘burbs?
Need help to buy
your dream house?
Fleetwood Synagogue is a small, friendly
Modern Orthodox shul, 25 minutes by train to Grand Central.
Fleetwood Synagogue, located in southern Westchester County, is a
wonderful and warm congregation: small and undiscovered. When you
are looking to relocate to a Modern Orthodox suburban setting, we want
you to consider Fleetwood as one of your options, and an interest-free
forgivable loan program is an added attraction for you.
The
Fleetwood Housing Incentive Program is intended to provide assistance
to Modern Orthodox families who need assistance moving into our
community. It works very simply. Upon acceptance into the
program (described below), you will be given $30,000 that you can use
as you see fit. It can be used toward the purchase of your home,
or its renovation, or tuition for your children’s
education. It’s yours. In exchange for the money you
agree to be full dues paying members of the synagogue and remain living
in the community for ten years. When that’s been completed,
you’re done – no need to repay a penny. If, for some
reason you are unable to complete the ten years, you’ll need to
repay the $30,000, but you will not pay any interest. The loan
will be secured, just as a mortgage is.
In
order to qualify for the program, the family must be first accepted for
membership in the synagogue. The process for membership begins
with a completed membership application mailed back to Rabbi Gedalyah
Berger, Fleetwood Synagogue, 11 East Broad Street, Mount Vernon, NY
10552. Rabbi Berger will then contact you to arrange for a
meeting. If you have any questions about the membership
application, please contact Rabbi Berger at (914) 664-7643, or
rabbi@fleetwoodsynagogue.org.
Upon
successful completion of the membership application process, you will
need to complete the loan application and return it, along with the
additional materials to the Membership Committee, Fleetwood Synagogue,
11 East Broad Street, Mount Vernon, NY 10552. If you have any
questions about the Housing Incentive Program, contact Jonathan Meyer
at jonathan.meyer@mssm.edu. Your application and all related
materials will be held in the strictest of confidentiality, and will be
reviewed by a very small number of people. Your privacy will be
respected throughout the process. The $30,000 will be paid upon
the purchase of a home. $15,000 is available upon the purchase of
a coop or condo. It is a new program, and the amount available
will decline as the program progresses. The first two families
accepted into the program will receive $30,000. As of August 30,
2009, one family has been accepted. After the first two families
have entered the program, the amount available will be $25,000.
You
will be invited in to spend shabbat in the community and then you will
meet with a subset of the Membership Committee to review your
application and to answer any questions you have.
When
approved for the program, you’ll need to sign loan agreements and
you’ll receive a check. It’s as simple as that.
